Immanuel Christian School was founded in 1986, when a group of parents sought to provide an excellent, Christ-centred education for their children. This founding group approved a constitution, established a membership, and elected the first board of directors. There were ten students enrolled in the opening year.
Since that time, the school has grown to include kindergarten through grade 9, with current plans for an expansion to the high school years as soon as possible. In 2011-12, our student body grew to 95, our highest enrolment ever. We have an excellent student-teacher ratio, with our average class this year having 13 students.
The school is owned by an association of parents, friends, and alumni who are unified around a Reformed statement of faith. The membership is not associated with any one particular church or denomination. The nine-member board of directors is elected from within the ranks of the membership and is responsible for the governance of the school.
We have a very open admission policy: at present, nineteen different churches are represented by our school families.
We have been praying for several years now about opening a high school division. Our hope is to move ahead with that new program shortly.
